Spinifex Macintyre Family Tent

The spirit of the Tent Embassy - NAIDOC week 2012

The tent embassy in Canberra has much more significant than the buildings of bricks and mortar that surround it.

The three Aboriginal men who set up beach umbrellas in front of Australia's Parliament House on Australia Day 1972 could never have dreamed that their protest action would need to be continued and there would be even further abuse of the Original peoples and their lands, four decades on.

Some of the names of the players in the campaign have changed but the sacred fire, tents and signs remain.
